1 fluid ounce2 tablespoons (about 30 ml)
1 pint2 cups (about 473 ml)
1 quart4 cups (about 946 ml)

1 pound16 ounces (about 454 grams)
100 gramsabout 3.5 ounces
1 kilogramabout 2.2 pounds

Spoons and pints differ by country

A US tablespoon is about 14.8 ml, a UK or metric tablespoon is 15 ml, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml. A teaspoon is about 5 ml almost everywhere. A US pint is 473 ml, but an imperial (UK) pint is 568 ml, so check where a recipe comes from.

Butter

One US stick of butter is 8 tablespoons, which is 1/2 cup or about 113 g. Two sticks make a cup, about 227 g.

Oven temperatures

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. Recipes usually round the result, so you will see these pairings:

FahrenheitCelsius (rounded)
300°F150°C
325°F160 to 165°C
350°F175 to 180°C
375°F190°C
400°F200°C
425°F220°C
450°F230°C

Fan or convection ovens usually need a setting about 20°C (25°F) lower than a conventional oven, so follow your oven's manual.

Volume versus weight

Volume measures like cups and tablespoons cannot be converted to grams without knowing the ingredient. Our cups to grams guide covers that.
